Albury Galvanizing’s product pricing is calculated on a ‘price per finished weight’ method. Each article that is galvanized is weighed on a certified and regularly tested set of scales in our factory and the weight is recorded. The weight multiplied by the pricing rate gives the total price of the galvanized item.

The price rate of galvanizing is determined mainly by the complexity of the items to galvanize and the amount of zinc and chemicals they will consume in the process of galvanizing. Items that are lightweight with high surface area tend to have a higher price rate than heavy items with a simple geometry.

Yes, it does. The steel now has a galvanized surface protecting it from rust. This means that there are layers of zinc alloys on the surface of the steel and the weight of the zinc is the reason for the increase in overall rate. The amount of weight increase is affected by a number of things including chemistry of the steel, the thickness of the steel, the surface area of the steel and other things - but it will be heavier.

In addition to the reasons given above a drafting program will usually not take into account the weight of weld metal. Often the section weights are not exactly in accordance with the manufactured product either. Calculated weights are useful as a guide but are not used to determine pricing.

Albury Galvanizing operates a certified set of scales and conducts weekly calibration testing to ensure accuracy and fair trading. Certification is renewed every 2 years.
